In short: Yes, a fibreglass pool can have an infinity edge. We offer a wet edge on a range of plunge pools and pools up to 7m, inground or above ground. The edge is made to order, tiled on site, and drains into a trough or tank that pumps water back. Done properly, it adds an average of about $10,000 to your pool quote.
Infinity edge pools are extremely popular with beautiful resorts around the globe, and they're now gaining popularity with residential fibreglass pools. The appeal of an infinity edge pool is that the water appears to flow into the landscape and surrounds, which has a huge visual impact.
They're known by a few different names, such as a wet edge, zero edge, negative edge or disappearing edge, but they all refer to the same end product. They aren't as simple as they might seem, so here's what you need to know.
Pro tip: Wet edge pools can add something really special to your home and make an elevated, small yard appear like it goes on forever. Be careful though - it’ll feel like you’re on holidays and visitors may never want to leave!
“An infinity edge can really elevate your outdoor living and recreational space. It can either be used to feature a view or as the feature by incorporating stones and landscaping.”
Colm, Managing Director, Swimming Pool Kits Direct
An infinity edge creates an illusion on one edge (or corner) of a pool so the water seems to overflow seamlessly over the side. In reality, a basin or trough is installed below to collect the water and recirculate it back into the pool.
Another type of infinity edge is a spa that either flows directly into the pool (no edge), or is raised and sits next to the pool, letting water flow between the two.
No, but many can. We have a large range of plunge pools and fibreglass swimming pools (up to 7m) that can have an infinity edge, in both inground and above ground versions. Not every model has this custom option. Give us a call to discuss your site and we'll suggest suitable shells.
Infinity edges work best where the ground falls away. If your block slopes, read our semi-inground pool guide and above ground fibreglass pools guide too.
When installed and finished correctly, an infinity edge adds an average of about $10,000 to your pool quotation. That's not a small amount, but the pool will look beautiful and be a talking point for years to come.
That figure covers the made-to-order edge and the extra equipment. Your site costs (trough or tank, tiling, extra plumbing) depend on the setup you choose, below. Price the base pool first in the Pool Price Calculator.
Wet edge pools can be inground or above ground, on any edge or corner of the shell. You can even get creative and split the spill edge across a surface or run it as a waterfall. Just remember that the spill area isn't smooth like the inside of the fibreglass shell, so it needs tiling. Talk to your installer and make sure an appropriate tile adhesive is used.
With every option, we recommend an auto leveller, so the system tops itself up and the pump never runs dry and gets damaged.
| Setup | How it works | Extra tank? | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Separate pump and returns | Water is collected in a trough or tank and pumped straight back into the pool through additional returns | Yes | Returned water isn't sanitised first, though it mixes with the larger pool volume |
| 2. Through your pool's filtration | A variable speed pump and automated chlorinator send tank water through the pool filter and back via the pool returns | Yes | Needs the right pump and chlorinator in your package |
| 3. Spa flowing into pool | Uses our Platinum pool and spa package with the Halo automated chlorinator. The pool collects the overflow and pumps it back to the spa | No, the pool is the tank | Spa and pool levels need to be planned together |

First, request a quote through our website or call us on 1800 497 421. Let us know you're after a wet edge pool so we can talk through which pools are suitable and which setup would work best.
We'll then put together a quotation based on our discussion and email it through. Once you've paid your deposit of $2,000 [CONFIRM current deposit amount], we'll organise a delivery date with you. Roughly one month before delivery, our manufacturer will call you to confirm the location of your wet edge so it can be made to order, and to discuss your setup.
Your pool and equipment will then be delivered as usual.
The same trades as any fibreglass pool, plus a tiler for the spill edge. Your plumber installs the trough or tank and extra returns, your electrician connects any extra pump, and your concreter or tiler finishes the edge. See the full list in what trades you need to install a DIY fibreglass pool and the stage-by-stage process on our pool installation page.
Tell us your site and which pool you like, and one of our Customer Success Managers will talk you through what's possible.
