Built for Central Highlands Conditions
Cooler summers. Extreme UV. Wet winters. Sorted.
Summers here average 24–25°C—noticeably cooler than Melbourne thanks to the elevation. UV levels still reach an extreme 11–12 in peak season. Without heating, comfortable swimming runs December to early March—about three to four months. Add heating and you're swimming October to April.
Ballarat's highland position and wet winters (August alone brings 73mm across 14 rain days) demand the right build:
- Extreme UV-resistant gelcoat rated for Ballarat's intense summer UV exposure
- Winter drainage engineered for the Central Highlands' wet winter months
- Heat-retention design that works with your heating system to maximise swimming months
Real Family. Real Backyard. Real Savings.

Your Questions, Answered
How long does council approval take?
Victoria uses Building Permits—different from NSW's CDC system. You'll need a Building Permit from a registered building surveyor for any pool over 300mm depth. Properties in Heritage Overlay areas (common in Ballarat's historic precincts) may also need a Planning Permit—check with City of Ballarat first. Private surveyors typically process permits in 2–6 weeks.
When's the best time to install?
October to March. January through March is ideal—Ballarat's driest window with just 4–5 rain days per month. Avoid June to September when wet winters bring frequent rain and boggy ground conditions—August alone averages 14 rain days.
Can I legally install it myself?
Yes, though work over $10,000 requires a registered builder for the construction. We provide step-by-step guides and connect you with licensed professionals for the regulated components.
