Your Questions, Answered
How long does council approval take?
Many Lismore properties qualify for a Complying Development Certificate (CDC)—typically 7–20 days through a private certifier. However, Lismore has significant flood-prone areas, so properties in low-lying zones may require a full DA. Elevated suburbs like Goonellabah, Lismore Heights, and Girards Hill typically have smoother approvals.
When's the best time to install?
July to September. This is Lismore's driest window—just 40–55mm monthly and only five rainy days. Avoid December through March when the wet season hits and saturated ground complicates excavation.
Can I legally install it myself?
Yes. In NSW, an owner-builder permit is required when coordinating two or more contractors on work over $10,000. We provide step-by-step guides and phone support throughout your project.
